Can you add a skylight to any roof?

Skylights are not suitable for every roof. As skylights are installed on the roof line, under the shingles and roof covering, the roof construction must be able to withstand the skylight. Both roof skylights and curb skylights look the same from the inside, so the type and slope of the roof are likely to be the determining factors for the style being installed.

A recommended option is to find the right skylight or use a light tube to place it between the ceiling beams.

Metal roofs only allow deck-mounted skylights, but if you have tile or tile roofs, you have the option to choose between skylights mounted on the terrace or on the sidewalk.

If you have a flat roof, once the skylight is placed outside, the installer will build a light pit with drywall inside.
